Reading skills is at the top of my list of most important things to learn in my homeschool.  Without proficiency in reading many other skills are almost impossible to learn. It is important to me that my children have strong reading skills so that all other subjects they learn will come more easily. When we had the opportunity to review Reading Eggs  from Blake eLearning Inc. I had already heard wonderful reviews from parents of young children and I was eager to try it with our first grader. What I did not know until our review was that this program would also help my ninth grader with her reading and comprehension!

Reading Eggs is an online multi award winning program and you can get a free 30 day trial if you want to check it out for your family.  With access to this online program we could utilize the reading portions of the program as well as the math program: Mathseeds which helps children ages 3-9 with core math and problem solving skills.

Our first grader enjoyed the interactive reading levels as well as the fun games.  She really enjoyed earning golden coins and jewels as she progressed in the program and she would giggle with the fun characters in each level. I allowed her to play around with the program to get accustomed to the layout before having her take the assessment.  After the assessment she was directed to activities that help at her reading level.  There are a variety of books available for her to read along with and a comprehension quiz at the end of each one for her to take.  The program is diverse and I find it a valuable addition to our reading time each day.

The Readingeggs site was easy enough for my first grader to maneuver without stress and the activities were challenging without overwhelming her.

The Reading Eggs program  is geared for children ages 2-12 but the Reading Eggspress is geared toward children ages 7-13. I couldn’t wait to have my 13 year old ninth grader try out the program as well.  We found it to be very helpful in reinforcing the skills she has learned thus far and she enjoyed the activities and games.  In her words “I thought this would be silly since I thought it was for little kids but I had to focus on some of these lessons because it had been a while since we had studied them.  It was hard but in a fun way.”  If you have older students who are struggling with any aspect of reading, I encourage you to look into this program.

This program was enriching and engaging for both our first grader and our ninth grader! It is challenging yet fun.

Our family found this program to be very helpful in teaching new reading skills and reinforcing ones we had learned before. It is challenging, engaging and enlightening.  Children of various ages and reading levels could benefit from the reading exercises as well as the math resources available. Don’t forget to check the Reading Eggs website for their free 30 day trial!
